                                                                 January 31, 2012

Dear Grade 5 Parents,
At your child’s January 31 workshop, we went over chapters 11 and 12 in their workbooks. The learning goals for each chapter are as follows:
Chapter 11 – Living God’s Word
- Recognize that Scripture and the teachings of the Church provide guidance for moral life.
 - Understand that Catholics have the privilege and duty of attending Sunday Mass.
- Learn the holy days of obligation.
Chapter Highlights: The Scriptures and the teachings of the Church provide us with guidance for living a moral life. The good example of other people, prayer, and the gifts of the Holy Spirit help us meet the challenges we face each day.
Chapter12 – We Pray the Lord’s Prayer
-   Understand that God gave Jesus the words of the Lord’s Prayer, the most                  perfect of prayers.
-   Realize that when we unite our prayers with those of Jesus, our prayers are always heard.
- Understand the Lords’ Prayer.
Chapter Highlights: The Lord’s Prayer is the summary of the whole Gospel. In praying the Lord’s Prayer, we acknowledge that God is our loving parent and we ask him to provide for all our needs.
For our March workshop, please work on the following Family Time Pages to get ready for our March lesson and have your child bring the assignment with them to our next session to share with others in the group.  (Chapter 13 – “God’s Love is Endless” pages 141/142 and Chapter 15 “Living God’s Commandments” pages 157/158.)
We kindly ask you to please initial your child has completed the homework on the chart found on the inside front cover of the workbook. The catechists will be checking that homework has been completed.
For our Samaritan basket in February, we are asking for pancake mix.

Yours in Christ,
 Lorraine Scandariato, CRE
