January 2012
Dear Grade 3 Parents,
At our January workshop, we went over chapters 11 and 12 in your child’s workbook. The learning goals and highlights for each chapter are as follows:
Chapter 11 – We Serve Others
-Know that faith, hope, and love must be practiced in our lives.
-Learn that through grace Catholics are called to live as faithful children of God.
- Recognize the responsibility to share the Good News of the Gospel.
Chapter Highlights: It is through grace that we participate in the life of the Trinity. Through grace we receive the life of the Spirit, who breathes charity into us and helps us respond to our mission. We are God’s adopted sons and daughters. He calls each of us by name to be part of his Church.
Chapter 12 – We Pray for All People
-Learn that we should be open to and accept guidance from the Holy Spirit.
-Understand the purpose and content of the Hail Mary and the Rosary.
-Understand the Church’s devotion to Mary, the Mother of God.
Chapter Highlights: Mary, prepared by the Spirit to be the dwelling place of the Son, has always been honored by the Church. In Mary the Holy Spirit fulfilled the Father’s plan of loving goodness, the manifestation of his Son. Through Mary, the Holy Spirit brings women and men into communion with Christ. Because she adheres to every prompting of the Holy Spirit, Mary is the Church’s model of faith and charity.
For our February, session, please work with your child on the following Family Time Pages to prepare for the February lesson and bring his/her assignment to our next session to share with others in the group. (Chapter 13 – “The Church Continues the Mission of the Apostles” pages 133/134 and Chapter 14 “We are Committed through the Sacraments” pages 141/142.)
We kindly ask you to please initial that your child has completed the homework on the homework chart found on the inside front cover of your child’s workbook. The catechists will be checking that homework has been completed.
Our Good Samaritan item for February is Pancake Mix.
Yours in Christ,
