Sacraments

 Baptism
Baptisms are celebrated twice monthly presided over by either the priest or one of the deacons.  They are scheduled at 1:30 pm or once a month in the context of the Eucharistic liturgy.  A Baptismal session is required for the parents to give them helpful insights into the celebration and to explain the responsibilities of Christian parenting.  Godparents are expected to present a form verifying that they are capable of acting as God-parent affirmed by the pastor of their church.

Baptisms are arranged through the parish office, 973-895-4224.

 Penance
Penance is celebrated individually each Saturday afternoon from 4:00 to 4:30 in the Reconciliation room in the Eucharistic chapel. Arrangements can be made for the celebration of the Sacrament of Penance by contacting the priest. Seasonally we celebrate a communal penance service during Advent and Lent.

 First Penance/First Eucharist

FIRST PENANCE
First Penance for children is celebrated in the second grade after a four month preparation program.  This usually happens in the early winter and is separated from the reception of the Eucharist by several months.

FIRST EUCHARIST

First Eucharist is celebrated usually in the second grade after a child has had two years of religious instruction.  These First Eucharist celebrations are held in late April or early May.  Generally there are four celebrations, two on a Saturday morning and two in the context of the community 12:15 liturgy on Sunday.

 Confirmation
Confirmation is celebrated with our teenagers, usually at the beginning of the Junior Year.  Those to be confirmed are part of the parish’s Youth Ministry and are formed through Caring groups that meet in the First and Second Year of high school.

An immediate preparation period is planned during the late summer and early fall. Confirmation is celebrated in the late fall.  The date is contingent on the Bishop’s schedule.

 Marriage
The Sacrament of Marriage is celebrated during the year after a formation program involving meetings with the presider of the Marriage and the completion of the Engaged Encounter or a Pre-Cana program.  Resurrection usually has its Pre-Cana program in the late winter on a Sunday from 10:30 to 8:00 PM.

Part of the preparation is the use of the FOCCUS instrument usually taken at the first meeting with the presider of the sacrament.  Ideally a year should be set apart for preparation for the Sacrament of Marriage.

 Sacrament of the Sick
The Sacrament of the Sick celebrations are scheduled twice during the year, in the spring and late fall.  The Sacrament of the Sick can be arranged individually through contact with the Pastoral Care Office.
