 Men's Fellowship Ministry

Click here to see the Men of Faith Video

The Men's Fellowship Group evolved from the Men of Faith.

What is the Men’s Fellowship Group (MFG)?

The goal of the MFG is to create a casual environment where men can:
  • meet and build fellowship with other men of the parish
  • further understand their faith through the experiences of others
  • share insights gained through challenges (and accomplishments)
  • seek ways to re-enforce/renew their Catholic faith

We begin and conclude our gathering with prayer. During the meeting we discuss current events as they apply to our faith,  followed by an interesting topic of the day.

We look forward to you becoming a Men's Fellowship member.

 Spirituality
THE CROSS

Jesus said pick up your cross and follow me. What does that mean for us? The Cross is the primary symbol of our Christian faith. However, we associate it only with pain and suffering. It brings to mind Jesus Passion and Death, and our own difficult times. We tend to see the Cross in our own lives as involving only the periods of pain and suffering.

Jesus brought his entire life to the Cross, not just his pain and suffering. He had many occasions of good times and joy, just as we do. In reality the cross encompasses our entire life, both the good times and the bad. Jesus brought the entire human family to the Cross with him. We are a mixture of strengths and weaknesses, joy and suffering, light and darkness. Jesus was sent to draw all people to himself, and then to offer them up to his Father. This includes our joys as well as our weaknesses and sins.

The makeup of the Cross itself is all encompassing. Jesus’ Cross was made of wood. In the form of various trees wood is found over most of the earth. We are surrounded by living trees, and wood in our homes and possessions. Not only is wood functional, it is a source of beauty and awe. I’m writing this looking out the window of our Vermont house at the beauty of the Green Mountains. It is a beautiful example of God’s creative power.

The Cross is made up of two beams, horizontal and vertical. Both are necessary. If one is missing we don’t have a cross. The vertical represents our relationship with God and the horizontal our relationship with one another. The two beams meet at Jesus.

Jesus’ Body, except for his arms and shoulders, is located on the vertical beam. He is pointing up to the Father, at the same time His arms are attached to the horizontal beam holding all people in a loving embrace.

Our lives are a journey home to God. We follow Jesus in varying ways. We don’t all follow the same path, but we are all headed in the same direction. We can help each other by the example we set and willingly sharing our joys and our pain with those with whom we come in contact.

If we choose, the Cross can become much more a part of our daily lives.

RCIA - The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults
RCIA (RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS)
CONTACT: STEPHANIE HAUGE
stephaniejhauge@gmail.com
973-539-8418

What is the RCIA – The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults?

A programmed process of inquiry, teachings, scripture sharing, faith sharing, discussions, formal rites of passage and prayer among catechists, inquirers (persons interested in knowing more about the Catholic faith), and active parishioners over about a nine month period. Sessions usually begin in the early fall and are held on a weekly basis. Through this process some inquirers may become catechumens, and decide to be initiated into the Catholic faith by receiving the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation) at the Easter Vigil. Sessions continue after the reception of the sacraments to explore living out the mystery of the faith.

Who should consider participating in RCIA?

·         Non-Catholics who may be interested due to marriage or engagement to a Catholic
·         Non-Catholics who are no longer or ever were active with another religious denomination who would like to understand more about the Catholic faith and its practices
·         Non-Catholics who may be raising children in the Catholic faith who need to understand the faith their children are being brought up in
·         Catholics who have not completed the initiation sacraments of First Communion or Confirmation
·         Catholics who need to know more or who have been inactive in their faith life.
How can you support RCIA?

Examine your situation and see if this program may be for you. Encourage a friend, spouse, neighbor, child, grandchild to participate based on their circumstances. Offer to accompany them to a session.

Volunteer to participate as a welcomer and share your faith with others.

 Sick and Homebound
MINISTRY TO THE SICK AND HOMEBOUND

Pastoral Care Phone: 973-895-4888

If you have a loved one who cannot get out to Mass and would like to receive Communion, please call the Pastoral Care phone number above to arrange a visit for them. Our Priests are available to bring the Sacraments of Reconciliation and the Sacrament of the Sick to those who would like to receive them.

We are available to sit with you, listen to you, and help you with the many situations that come up when tending to the care of a loved one who is homebound.

When we were little, we asked our parents for many things. We expected that all we had to do was ask and they were ours. But often, we were told no. We had to accept that reality and go on. Sometimes it was a blessing that we did not get what we asked for. Other times we were so disappointed and had to learn to do without. We were told it was not the best thing for us. I believe our prayers to God, in Jesus’ Name and by the power of the Holy Spirit are not always answered the way we anticipate. Sometimes we are told no. We didn’t leave our parents because we didn’t get our way. Why do we turn away from God when He says no? He is always with us, in good times and bad, in happy times and sad, in yes times and in no.

Our faith tells us God is the infinite giver and because He loves us He gives us what we need and what will be good for our immortal souls. That sometimes means we experience pain, but He is there to hold us in the midst of that pain. And He will help us through the disappointments and show us the better way. We shortchange ourselves when we don’t keep the Lord in our whole lives. Give glory and praise to Him every day!

God bless.                                                               Cindy Novak
